japonisme

I'm highly fascinated by japanese aesthetic tradition.
It's so interesting to see how japanese taste was perceived by western culture at the end of the 19th century and how it enormously influenced arts, design and fashion.

......

me in a vintage kimono, showing it off in a 20s inspired budoir lavish way
... or at least trying to.

Obviously my living room wasn't the most proper setting for this but oh well.
Oh, if only I lived in a lovely garden full of blooming camellias and huge climbing wisteria...

1940s kimono
1920s embroidered silk teddy

I actually love the contrast between the delicate nude silk brocade and the bright printed lining
And of course I couldn't help but place tiny dried flowers in my hair...

la mariée

Edwardian brides.

Lately I've been obsessed by antique bridal accessories.
I love their exquisite decorative structure and the perceivable effort with whom they are produced.
I guess their symbolic uniqueness and their long gone history also contribute to making them so extremely fascinating.

Wax flowers crowns in particular, I can't even describe how precious these are.

As a result, I've become increasingly intrigued with silk flowers and vintage floral millinery.
I actually love dried flowers much more than ordinary (cut) ones, with their fragility and slight sense of decay.

I recently purchased online some vintage blossoms and I'll hopefully be making nice head pieces out of them.

For now just let me indulge in these amazing pictures featuring some really fine ladies with beautifully adorned locks...

 Simply stunning.
